The Tonbridge Repair Café is a community-led initiative held monthly at St Stephen’s Church, Tonbridge, offering free repair services from 10 am to 12:30 pm once a month, except in August and December.
It provides a welcoming space where people can bring broken household items—such as electricals, textiles, clothing, woodwork, and mechanical objects—for skilled volunteers to assess and attempt repairs. Additional services, like knife sharpening and small fixes, are also available during both the main events and smaller outreach sessions.
Visitors are encouraged to stay with the volunteer repairers during the process, allowing them to learn new skills and gain practical knowledge about maintaining and fixing their belongings. While repairs are offered at no cost, donations are welcomed to help cover expenses such as tools, materials, insurance, and refreshments.
Pre-registration is recommended to speed up the process, with attendees encouraged to provide details or photos of items needing repair. If parts are required, volunteers offer guidance on sourcing them so repairs can be completed later.
Beyond its main monthly events, the café also runs outreach sessions at local community venues. By promoting sustainability, skill-sharing, and connection, the Tonbridge Repair Café helps reduce waste while fostering a stronger, more environmentally conscious community.
