By Weald Radio Newsroom

A free service for Parkwood residents

Residents in Parkwood can now benefit from a state-of-the-art thermal imaging service in an effort to help them maximise the energy efficiency of their homes.

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) in partnership with Fusion Healthy Living Centre Parkwood are offering the energy advisory sessions free of charge.

This innovative service, specifically targeted at households in the Parkwood area, will provide residents with highly detailed, home-specific information about their property's thermal efficiency, helping them stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Thermal imaging assessments will be conducted directly within residents' homes, utilising a portable thermal camera that transforms an Android smartphone/tablet or Windows laptop into a powerful imager via its USB-C port and accompanying app.

Residents of Parkwood can now book a home visit with a dedicated Parkwood Energy Advisor.

The introduction of this thermal imaging service is a crucial step in addressing climate vulnerability within Parkwood, identified as a high-risk area susceptible to issues such as excess cold and excess heat.

By offering precise insights into heat loss and draughts, the partnership empowers residents to implement more targeted actions to improve their health, enhance their homes' thermal efficiency, and ultimately reduce their cost of living.

Maidstone Borough Council and Fusion Healthy Living Centre Parkwood are committed to supporting residents in acting upon the findings from their thermal imaging sessions. For example, the identification of draughts will prompt efforts to connect residents with effective draught-stopping ideas and solutions.

Maidstone Borough Council’s Biodiversity and Climate Change Manager, Shelley Wilcken said: "We are embracing new technology in order to provide practical measures to deliver a dual benefit for our community. By helping residents identify areas of heat loss, we're not only empowering them to make their homes warmer and save significant money on their energy bills, but we're also making a tangible contribution to reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change across Maidstone."

Councillor Rachel Rodwell, Cabinet Member for Climate Transition & Nature Recovery said: "We are incredibly excited about this partnership with Fusion Healthy Living Centre Parkwood together we are directly addressing both climate vulnerability and the rising cost of living."

This valuable new service is delivered collaboratively by Fusion Healthy Living Centre Parkwood in conjunction with Maidstone Borough Council and is exclusively available to Parkwood residents.
