Maidstone District Council and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council are among those who have been examining the proposals for re-organisation of the administration in Kent.

Both Maistone and Tunbridge Wells have selected their preferred option from the proposed options.

The two councils have suggested that plan 3A is the best option and that it would be best for the county.

Option 3A would see the councils from Sevenoaks, Tonbridge & Malling, Tunbridge Wells, and Maidstone combining to create a single unitary authority. Two additional unitary authorities would also be created, one for the northern part of the county and the third covering the east.

A public consultation is expected early in 2026, with the final decision announced in the summer.
